Boolean Logic

Hmmmm. Boolean. What kind of a word is that? Well, it comes from a British mathematician named George Boole who came up with a system for obtaining more precise search results by making more precise queries. The AND, OR, NOT operators are pretty self explanatory, but "nesting" gets a little confusing to me. By nesting, one can combine several search statements into one. Putting parentheses around a phrase forces the phrase to be searched in this exact order. One operator I have not heard of is NEAR. This allows search terms to be situated within a certain distance from one another. The operator ADJ allows the words to be switched such as ERNEST HEMINGWAY or HEMINGWAY ERNEST.
